Upd #WSJ #Walker reports raising $13 million in most recent filing period

Walker reports raising $13 million in most recent filing period

Let's do some math ... from WSJ ...
According to paperwork submitted to the Government Accountability Board late Monday, Walker reported a total of 125,926 contributions, of which the governor said 76 percent were $50 or less.
Assuming these numbers apply to the recent $13M not the 25M (since January 2011 or 2012?)
  •  How many "entities" contributed $50 or less?  ~ 95,700
  • Calculate how much money assuming $50 contribution.  ~ $4,785,000 Max Total
  • How many "entities" contributed $50 or more  ~ 30,222
  • Assuming all the little folks were maxed out how much of $13M is left?  ~ $8,215,000
  • Of the big "entities" what was the average contribution?  ~ $271
Anybody know the median contribution, or the top one hundred? Or who were the top 100?

How about some different headlines?

Walker Contributions Exceeding $1,000 January 18, 2012 through April 23, 2012

Speed Date #Politicians :The Pronoun "I" & Power #NPR

This story on NPR (4/30/2012) is fun and may have some counter-intuitive relevance... near the end of the story they talk about "Power" and relationships.  I would interpret it that the more "politicians" use the pronoun "I" perhaps the more we should like them?!

Especially since we are all "speed dating" through the "Recall Walker Election" cycle.

The Environmental Protection Agency will develop and finalize multiple rules over the next several years that will dramatically impact the air, water, and energy regulatory climate. This unprecedented level of activity will be mirrored at the state level since each federal regulation will trigger the promulgation of state rules to implement the standards. Studies have shown these rules will have an impact on the overall economy, jobs, competitiveness, and energy costs. Resources related to the "Train Wreck" are available here.

Walker has kept WIS in an employment RECESSION!

7/17/2014  - Wisconsin loses 1,200 private-sector jobs in June, estimates show

3/8/2013 No matter how you spin job numbers, Wisconsin near bottom compared to other states

Jan 2013 - Walker brings Wisconsin job growth at 38th worst state.

Jobs data now official: Wisconsin gains but lags behind most states

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Walker loses jobs and lowers unemployment by discouraging people!
JSOnline 4.24.12 State posts largest percentage job loss in U.S. over past year, report shows
From March 2011 to March 2012, Wisconsin lost 23,900 jobs. That was the largest decrease in percentage terms in the country.
Those job losses came from both the public and private sector, but the public sector job losses (17,800) were larger than the private-sector job losses (6,100).
Bureau of Labor Statistics
Over the year, nonfarm employment increased in 45 states and the District of Columbia, decreased in 4 states, and was unchanged in Alabama.
The largest over-the-year percentage increase occurred in North Dakota (+6.5 percent).
The largest over-the-year percentage decrease in employment occurred in Wisconsin (-0.9 percent).
With changes like these you almost have to interpret it as stemming from Walker policies/budget and influence to constrain local governments by reducing revenue sharing.
_________________________
Some tweeted me about declining unemployment rates ...  suggesting things were better ... they may be?!
When the unemployment rate goes down however it may indicate fewer are being reported or counted simply because they are discouraged and not looking for a job.  This also explains when things improve why the unemployment rate can go up.  Looking at job gains or losses ... those jobs gained or lost can be tricky too since not all jobs are the same!
Walker 's Merit Raises - where do we get the list?
Other than it would be very bad for the morale of those co-workers not rewarded we should celebrate publicly all of those being rewarded with bonus or merit ... if that is the system we are going to use!  This includes those in UW System.  I suspect that the so-called merit/bonus for DNA Analyst(s) is really as said ... more a reflection of market demand ... so adjust pay scales.
APNewsBreak: Wis. governor reinstated merit raise program even as most workers took pay cuts
I would be very interested to see if any of these persons are recent appointees, or serve in politically sensitive positions, how bonuses were distributed by income level, and whether any signed the recall petitions?
 I read today in WSJ that about one-half of the 220 were in the State Justice Department!
What will happen when #Walker wins the #wiRecall!?
This note is fiction at the present.  I am sure none of us want this to become fact!  But think about the future!
State Senator Glenn Grothman, District 20, is appointed by Governor Walker as the new head of DHS (Wisconsin Department of Health Services).  The disappearance of many women is reported immediately.  There is speculation they have been sequestered for their own safety at TAYCHEEDAH CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION.
Media reports indicate that Secretary Grothman ordered the move in-conjunction Stephen Fitzgerald, father of two infamous Wisconsin Legislators (Scott and Jeff), currently head of Wisconsin State Patrol (appointed by Walker in 2011) and recently appointed to head of the Wisconsin National Guard (following Walker's recall victory).  The round  up of single women started almost immediately.
Governor Walker signed an Executive Order authorizing the move.  Coincidentally this Executive Order is very similar to legislation that former Senator Grothman proposed in the last legislative session - that single parents (but just women) should be investigated for child abuse and or neglect.
Coming on the heals of Act 217 requiring three doctor visits by women seeking abortions the State GOP applauded the move.  The argument goes like, "if we get these child abusers off the streets and in custody no one will want or need an abortion and we will keep health care costs under control."
What can you imagine ... more later!!?
There are reports that camera and video equipment is being confiscated by the National Guard at check points set up on all major highways leading into the stateThose observed using such equipment nearby State Patrol or Army National Guard personnel are having their equipment confiscated as well.
Is #Walker really going to ruin the #WRS system?
I have not totally looked into this ... but it is what I would expect ... so we all can read it together and make our minds up.  Does the WRS really need to be studied more especially by the agenda driven Walker/GOP.
I think all State residents should be able to participate in a segregated fund within the WRS.  Save all those 401K/IRA fees and all that time plus get a better ROI than the private sector provides.
National Institute on Retirement Security has found the following information -
The Wisconsin Retirement System supported 50,317 jobs and $6.2 billion in total economic output in 2009.  This was done by the 572,000 plus people that are retired under the WRS.
Between 1993 and 2009, 23.90% of Wisconsin’s pension fund receipts came from employer contributions, 5.21% from employee contributions, and 70.89% from investment earnings.* Earnings on investments and employee contributions—not taxpayer contributions—have historically made up the bulk of pension fund receipts.
#BBC : #Facebook supports #Cispa cyber-security bill
BBC 4/16/2012
Facebook says it is backing a new cyber-security bill due before US Congress later this month.
The HR 3523 Act would enable the government to access web users' private data on suspicion of a cyber threat.
The act, dubbed the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (Cispa), would also allow easier information-sharing between security agencies and private web firms.
Advocacy groups claim that it is aimed at file sharers rather than hackers.
First introduced on 30 November last year, the proposed law - which is due before Congress on 23 April - has been criticised by advocates of internet privacy and neutrality.
Facebook, AT&T, Intel, Verizon, and Microsoft are among some 800 firms who have reacted positively to the bill.
Just a quick note ... the group seems just as earnest as last year although about 1/2 the size ... loose pack on King St plaza entrance to the square/Capitol.  I left just as Vicki McKenna was coming on.  Last year it was held on the opening day of Madison's Farmer's Market on the Square (Dane County) and there were as many people protesting the TeaParty as there were supporters ... and Sarah Palin was here! But the Farmer's Market had a big turnout - it starts next week this year (on the Square).  These are chronological from ~12 to  12:30pm ... the rhetoric seem more or less (2 or 3 speakers I heard) directed "War on Women, Children, Budgets and Deficits".
#Politics: We should have High Speed Trains not just Trucks (corridor urban sprawl)
High Speed Train Wreck
I believe the route went from Milwaukee to Madison to Minneapolis.  Even if it was just Milwaukee to Madsion (90 miles) for $800 million it sounds like a bargain.  Isn't making political deals and political rhetoric amazing.  There are all kinds of issues and tradeoffs involved in making these decisions but it would be nice if it really was an attempt to make good long term policy decisions vs expedient short term political gain.
Plain Talk: Wisconsin’s loss is Illinois’ gain as trains roll 3/28/2012
State details plans for expanding Interstate 39-90 from the Wis State Journal 4/13/2012
The newspaper headline was $715 million (for 45 miles of hwy) ... anybody wonder why Walker was out of town and not taking credit ... oh, the state has to come up with $500 million as our share.  How does that compare with the $137 million ... we are broke claim?
The $715 million reconstruction and expansion of a 45-mile stretch of Interstate 39-90 between Madison and the Illinois state line will aid state tourism and help create more economic development along the corridor, one of the busiest stretches of highway in the state, officials say.
The eight-year project is scheduled to begin in 2015, but construction of the Highway 11 interchange in Janesville is scheduled for 2013.
"This is a really great day for Wisconsin," said state Transportation Secretary Mark Gottlieb. "This represents a $715 million vote of confidence for Wisconsin. It's a vote of confidence in our economy and a vote of confidence in the importance of transportation infrastructure."
A former deputy under secretary of Commerce in the Clinton administration, Rothkopf has written two previous books on the power elite and is a reliable source of sound bites about U.S. foreign policy. But readers expecting a campaign-season analysis of current affairs will be disappointed, at least for the first two-thirds of Power, Inc., as they realize that the story of Kare the Goat is only the beginning of a breathless account of the last 700 years of Western political history.
From Russia w/Love: Stalin makes the Koch family richer
Who is Mary Ellen Mark ....photo journalist and author
... wandered into her web ... following search for William Koch ... found a magazine article she has a photo credit in.  The story is about the Koch family!  I was totally ignorant of her work and before I just believed what the article said I wanted to know more.
Survival of the Richest ... photo credit becomes story ... "Survival of the Richest," (Corporate Portraits--Fred Koch), November 1989, Leslie Wayne, p. 145, USA, 1 bw, 208N
... this all started while watching "UpWith Chris Hayes" (4/7/2012) as he did a story about environmental activism via the imprisonment of Tim DeChristopher ... Tim's civil disobedience story was paralleled with similar acts by William Koch (who did not go to jail according to Tim's lawyer)
http://www.maryellenmark.com/bio_resume/bio_resume.html
About Tim DeChristopher from Wikipedia ...
Tim DeChristopher is an American climate activist and co-founder of the environmental group Peaceful Uprising. On December 19, 2008, he protested an oil and gas lease auction of 116 parcels of public land in Utah's redrock country, conducted by the Bureau of Land Management. DeChristopher decided to participate in the auction, signing a Bidder Registration Form and placing bids to obtain 14 parcels of land (totaling 22,500 acres) for $1.8 million. DeChristopher was removed from the auction by federal agents, taken into custody, and questioned. On July 26, 2011, Judge Dee Benson sentenced DeChristopher to two years in prison; his lawyers plan to appeal.
I did not find the parallel story about William Koch alluded to in the "Up With Chris Hayes" program ...  but it was still an interesting journey!  Briefly from Leslie Wayne's story ... excerpt about the patriarch, Fred ...
His first big profits came from Russia, where he went in the late 1920s and early 1930s after his customers fled under the barrage of lawsuits. There, he built fifteen refineries as part of Stalin's first five-year plan. But when purges in the late '30s liquidated some of Fred Koch's best Russian friends, he turned into a fervent anti-Communist and went on to become an early member of the ultraconservative John Birch Society.
ALEC - Shadow State Gov - SourceWatch.org
6/8/2013   ALEC says its communications with Wisconsin lawmakers are private
The American Legislative Exchange Council, better known as ALEC, is being challenged for using Internet drop boxes and broad new assertions of privacy to shield from public view the discussions of elected officials and corporate leaders it brings together to write model legislation for state governments.
In particular, the Arlington, Va.-based group has begun adding a disclaimer to documents it provides to state lawmakers contending that the material — including meeting agendas and policy proposals — isn’t subject to the Wisconsin Open Records Law or similar laws in any state.
