2004-2016 : The Difference: Bush - Obama - Romney - Trump > Ryan - Walker

2016/12/12 - Changed Title put in 2016 for 2013

I can't believe how optimistic I was:  Trump is in group all by himself.  Every cabinet nominee is so obviously selif-interested, conflicted.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To me these two examples epitomize the essence of what we had for eight years and what we have had for the last four years and will have for the next four years.  I wish we had all avoided Governor Walker but at least Romney and Ryan were avoided.
It appears that a heavily influenced GOP/TeaParty/conservative Congress is also doing all it can to eliminate government investment in research where private or corporate interests will just not go ... such as avoiding pandemics, plague and pestilence, understanding global climate change, etc.  Anyone remember the Space Race and the capability corporations did not have but through national need would be supported to develop them!
2004: Bush Administration
NASA scientist rips Bush on global warming. Renowned expert says data 'screened and controlled'_[by Bush Administration]
AP :updated 10/27/2004 8:10:35 AM ET
The Bush administration is trying to stifle scientific evidence of the dangers of global warming in an effort to keep the public uninformed, a NASA scientist said Tuesday night.
“In my more than three decades in government, I have never seen anything approaching the degree to which information flow from scientists to the public has been screened and controlled as it is now,” James Hansen told a University of Iowa audience.
Hansen is director of the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York and has twice briefed a task force headed by Vice President Dick Cheney on global warming. He was also one of the first government scientists tasked with briefing congressional committees on the dangers of global warming, testifying as far back as the 1980s.
NYT: F.D.A. Offers Broad New Rules to Fight Food Contamination By STEPHANIE STROM
The Food and Drug Administration on Friday proposed two sweeping rules aimed at preventing the contamination of produce and processed foods, which has sickened tens of thousands of Americans annually in recent years.
What do you bet these rule proposals have been around since 2004 but only now can they be brought forward ... anyone like unsafe pharmaceuticals  and/or food.  Only if you can make a buck on it!
FDR vs Paul Ryan, 1938 all over again
 Although I am not a scholar on the history of the Great Depression, it has been described to me by my family and I have read about it ... which makes me as qualified as most of the people pontificating about the situation we find ourselves in today.  People like to disparage the economist Keynes these days ... all he said was that there was a little simple algebra that roughly describes the interactions of interest rates, employment, income and consumption!  Trust me ... it is still true!  You have a big crash, a reduction in income, a shrinkage of asset values and you are going to have a recession / depression!  What would you do ... Mr. President ... well Keynes would tell you to supplant the loss in consumption with Federal spending to boost / maintain employment or reduce low / middle income taxes or both ... but not if you are a conservative Republican!  In the latter case you focus on finding an anti-FDR solution ... contract spending, raise interest rates and increase unemployment.
The rest of it ...
The impact of a shutdown on the populace will be dynamic, especially if you're waiting for the IRS to send you a tax refund. Ain't happening. Social Security checks won't be delayed, at least not at first, but if a shutdown lingers for too long, those checks won't be coming, either. Some 800,000 people will be put out of work, and private sector jobs that rely on federal funding will likewise be left twisting in the wind.The impact of a shutdown on the populace will be dynamic, especially if you're waiting for the IRS to send you a tax refund. Ain't happening.  US troops serving overseas will only get half their pay, if that. As the New York Times reported, "If the government shuts down from Friday for a week, troops would receive half their pay in the checks received on the 15th of the month. If the government were to stay shut down until April 30, (Defense Secretary Robert) Gates said, troops would miss a whole check. Troops are paid on the 15th and last day of each month."
FitzwalkerStan to Annex Ryangoria - Healthcare Medicaid Medicare
Let's see - Paul Ryan, Congressman from Wisconsin, wants to transform Medicaid into a block grant (to states) and transform Medicare into some sort of (fixed) payment to private insurers.  And you, Joe Public, will have to spend hours if not weeks figuring out what is best for you just like you now do for Medicare - Part D.  The "D(irty trick)" stands for the famous donut ("black") hole created by a previous Republican dominated Congress.
Just a little time back Governor Walker said he wanted more flexibility  with Medicaid, like block grants would be nice.  Do you think it is the Wisconsin version of "Group Think? More likely it is the way ALEC thinks (American Legislative Exchange Council) now famous for Governor Walker's Budget Repair ideas to destroy "collective bargaining".  Wisconsin State Senator Scott Fitzgerald has been a member of ALEC for most of his political career.
If you want to watch them watching you - American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC)
 from the source -
In December, 2009, Raw Story and ThinkProgress.org reported that BCBS Association had been quietly working with the ALEC to draft a resolution that would use the issue of state's rights to make health care reform (and regulation of the insurance industry) unconstitutional. ALEC drafted and distributed model legislation in the form of a resolution, that would effectively make both a federally-created health insurance exchange and a public health insurance option illegal under the 10th Amendment to the Constitution, which guarantees certain non-specific rights to the states. Joan Gardner, a senior executive at the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, (BCBS' lobbying group) admitted playing a key role in crafting the resolution. Christie Herrera, who directs a health task force at ALEC, reports that insurance industry lobbyists have been working with ALEC to promote it to legislators. The resolution, and amendments closely related to it, have already been introduced in at least half a dozen states. ALEC has been working behind the scenes for months to advance the idea that proposals put forth by President Obama and the Democrats to regulate the insurance industry and enact a public option, violate states' rights.[31][32]
The NY Times has a piece going over the GOP / Ryan Ideas :
G.O.P. Blueprint Would Remake Health Policy By ROBERT PEAR Published: April 4, 2011 NY times
Given the constituency of Medicaid, 50% children, Ryan might be able to pull it off, especially in Wisconsin, since the Governor and Republican controlled legislature has made it more difficult for people to vote - especially (grand parents) older people and kids transitioning to voting age!
