Luther Olsen supported by Out-of-State "Club for Growth"

Just saw two ads back to back (Channel WISC 3 about 6:15pm Sunday 7/24) ... the first attacked Fred Clark and the second said Luther Olsen was a wonderful politician being attacked by out-of-state special interests!  That inspired me to rerun a sort of negative/truthful add about Olsen .... who do you believe?

Will all health insurance plans soon have to offer all FDA-approved forms of prescription contraception at no upfront cost to women? They will if Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius accepts the recommendations released today from an expert panel of the Institute of Medicine.

The study — released a day early — actually calls for eight additional services for women to be added to the list of preventive care patients should be offered with no cost-sharing. The new services include annual "well-woman" visits; screening of pregnant women for gestational diabetes; screening for sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV; more support for breast-feeding mothers; and counseling and screening for possible domestic violence.

I seem to recall reading that Darling has been raking in money, putting up billboards and secretly pushing tobacco for kids, etc.  Can't fool all the people all the time ... I guess! Click title for story!

Madison -- Sen. Alberta Darling is in a dead heat with her Democratic challenger in next month's recall election, according to a new poll released by the Democratic party.
Darling (R-River Hills) slightly trailed her challenger Rep. Sandy Pasch (D-Whitefish Bay), who had 47% of likely voters to Darling 46%, a difference that was within the poll's margin of error.
The poll done for Democrats by the Mellman Group showed that Pasch has closed the gap between her and Darling from another survey done in May that showed Darling with a 9 percentage point lead.
The poll surveyed 350 likely voters and was done on July 13 and 14. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percentage points.
The recall was sought against Darling and five other Republican senators for their votes supporting Gov. Scott Walker's legislation eliminating most collective bargaining for public workers. The election will be held on Aug. 9.

The Common Council on Monday decided to open only one of its six polling locations for the recall election for the 8th District State Senate Race. Sen. Alberta Darling, who is being recalled, will be on the ballot as well as Sandy Pasch, who currently represents the 22nd Assembly District.
If more candidates submit the paperwork to run for the seat, the July 12 election will be a primary with a general election to follow in August. City Administrator Richard Maslowski said the election does not include all city voters as the 6th Aldermanic District and part of the 1st Aldermanic District are not part of the 8th Senate District.
"We will save some money by having one common polling place," Maslowski said.
There is no funding for special elections in the city's 2011 budget.
Mayor Jerry Tepper wondered if one poll would be enough.
"It seems there could be a large turnout," he said. "If we have everything at City Hall, it could discourage some electors." ...

A nice rundown of State Senators and opponents and from the article a word about Voter ID.  If you are affected in your Senate District it may be good idea to make some inquiries of local election officials so that there are fewer surprises and the officials gauge turnout correctly and have enough poll workers and ballots!!!

Will the recall elections be subject to the Voter ID requirements just signed into law?

Yes and no. According to Magney, voters in this summer’s elections will be asked for identification. However, voters without ID will be allowed to vote and provided with information on how to get valid ID in time for the 2012 primary, when photo ID will be mandatory.

Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald predicted Republicans would still have 19 members of the state Senate once the recall elections are over and could possibly even pick up a new member.

Still, Fitzgerald, R-Juneau, warned the delegates that Dems are motivated.

"Trust me, the other side is already measuring the drapes," he said.

Fitzgerald opened his speech by joking it was the first time he'd been in front of a crowd that large without people chanting and yelling things at him.

"I also have to tell you you smell a lot better," Fitzgerald said.

Gov. Walker - listen carefully ... Holperin vs Simac vs who ... vote split?

WisPolitics is quoting Governor Walker ... who is he talking about ... FAB14?  He is also talking about the three Democrats who may be facing recall!  In particular he thinks Holperin is vulnerable!

"To me it's real simple. Voters in those three races should ask themselves a simple question -- if they didn't show up for work for three weeks, would they still have a job? I think the answer is simple, they'd all be fired. And voters have to question whether or not they're going to fire the people that didn't show up for work," Walker said.

WisPolitics continues to tantalize with details about Holperin's opposition -

Simac had a booth set up at this weekend's state convention featuring T-shirts that read "RECALL Jim Holperin" and water bottles that read "Kim's running, but she won't run."

Simac said she expected Dems to try to make the election about her background, but she said it would largely hinge on whether people approved of Holperin's decision to join fellow Dems out of state to hold up a vote on the collective bargaining bill. She said people will not forget that decision any time soon.

Recall : JSOnline : Langan makes it official, will run against Cowles

Rich Langan, trusts his experience as a former Brown County supervisor, aide to former U.S. Rep. Steve Kagen will carry the Recall Election as he announced he would  run against state State Sen. Robert Cowles (R-Green Bay).

Langan, of Ashwaubenon, made the announcement during a news conference Wednesday morning at Brown County Democratic Party headquarters in Green Bay, and hitched his run to efforts by Wisconsin Democrats to seize control of the state Senate. Republicans now control the body, 19 to 14; a gain of three seats by Democrats would put them in control.

...Langan faces a big challenge in running against Cowles, who's served in the Senate for over 24 years and represents a district all three of whose Assembly members are Republicans. The Cowles recall effort was the last one to collect enough signatures to force an election. The state Government Accountability Board is now in the process of vetting the signatures.

Kapanke is one of nine senators - six Republicans and three Democrats - who are under threat of recall.

Two more candidates emerged Wednesday to run against incumbents. Rep. Sandy Pasch (D-Whitefish Bay) plans to run against Sen. Alberta Darling (R-River Hills) and will formally announce that this week, sources said.

Pasch could not be reached for comment. Former Rep. Sheldon Wasserman, who unsuccessfully ran against Darling in 2008, has considered running. On Wednesday, he wouldn't say if he'd run or not, but he said he and Pasch would both talk at a news conference Friday in Whitefish Bay, which is her hometown.

Meanwhile, in the race against Sen. Jim Holperin (D-Conover), recall organizer Kim Simac released a statement saying she'd run against Holperin.
