Motivated by the current (2011) political climate in Wisconsin it seems reasonable to devote some time and effort to comment on issues and some of the hyperbole. So we in the public should do what we can to help focus "journalists" on delineating real facts versus spin. If you accept the spin you do not understand the policy implications.
So this is nothing new? Politicians have always talked out of two sides of their mouth! Nuanced messages to different constituencies.
I would say it has never been like this because we are in a "new media era" every month. Senator Joe Manchin simply offers the best illustration of the point.
Consider ... this last week Manchin announced he will not support "Build Back Better". Where and how did he make this pronouncement - "Fox News". STRATEGIC.
He knows his "conservative" or "Trump" supporters will hear this message as they listen only to Fox. His detractors will be heard only on the "lib" media!
He thus has it both ways! Later his principal supporters will only remember he was against BBB. So he can get away with changing his posture with little impact. The "cons" will not be too critical because he has them believing he may switch to their POV.
So he maintains or enhances his leverage with both groups - the "cons" and the "libs" ... what a master at the straddle!
Senator #Manchin and the " #TwoFaced " #politician ?!
... and the problem is still generally Congress. Although the paper towel rolls that Trump tossed to Puerto Ricans were appreciated I'm sure :)

The nonprofit organization behind a wide-reaching ad campaign against allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices has deep ties to pharmaceutical lobbyists.
A cable ad campaign has made a patient group called the Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease ubiquitous on television screens in Washington, D.C., and 13 states including Arizona, Colorado and Georgia.
“Thirteen years ago, I noticed a lump on my stomach, and sure enough, they found a cancerous tumor on my liver. I’ve got to take about 22 pills a day,” a man named Bo says in one of the group’s ads. “Take it from someone who knows: Medicare price negotiation isn’t the answer.”
Undisclosed in the heart-wrenching commercials: The Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease has extensive ties to the lobby for major pharmaceutical companies, the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, or PhRMA.
For nine years, it shared an address with PhRMA, which advocates for pharmaceutical companies including Pfizer, Amgen and GlaxoSmithKline. Lobbyists for the partnership also lobby for drug companies, and they list PhRMA as a related organization on their required disclosure forms.

I promise to donate more that $100 to such a fund! It would work sort of like this!
We need other pols involved like - Baldwin, Sanders, Warren, Raskin, Schiff, etc.
We also need some "operatives" involved like Stacy Abrams.
The above types would serve as a governing board to support a candidate that they deem appropriate to "primary" Manchin and Sinema if their voting record does not improve on social issues such as - votiing rights, choice, climate, pharma reform!
The accrued campaign dollars could not be spent except for a majority of the board taking a no confidence vote on Sinema and/or Manchin and until after 2023.
The board has to similarly approve the candidates who will primary Manchin and Sinema.
The governing rules need to be fleshed out.
This is a way make Manchin and Sinema accountable now and it will be taken seriously as the bank account grows.

Michael J. Gableman is an American lawyer from Waukesha County, Wisconsin, formerly a justice of the Wisconsin Supreme Court. His term began on August 1, 2008 and ended on July 31, 2018. Gableman did not seek reelection. He has been described as a "hard-line conservative." Wikipedia
Now he is wasting our time spending our money harassing elected officials in the State of Wisconsin.
Sometimes I wonder is "conservative" just another word for ... fill in your favorite. A Vos puppet or WMC ( Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce) stooge.

On Monday, the Ford Motor Company announced a massive investment to build electric vehicles in Kentucky and Tennessee. Together with partner SK Innovation, it will invest $11.4 billion and create around 11,000 new jobs in the region building electric F-series pickup trucks and battery packs.
"This is our moment—our biggest investment ever—to help build a better future for America," said Jim Farley, Ford president and CEO. "We are moving now to deliver breakthrough electric vehicles for the many rather than the few. It's about creating good jobs that support American families, an ultra-efficient, carbon-neutral manufacturing system, and a growing business that delivers value for communities, dealers and shareholders."

Hmmm! I guess it begins with knowing in advance what the turnout is going to be! After all you would not want to go to all that effort and lose anyway?! You need at least a 1% margin or your favorite politician can't declare that they have a MANDate (maybe that should be WOMANDate)? Don't forget you want to avoid recounts and runoffs too!
Let's start with 100,000 votes cast. So you need a 51,000 to 49,000 vote result to get your MANDate of 1% ... right. You can scale up the math for larger elections?
So I have to find 1000 volunteers to vote twice at least. This means we only had a turnout of 99,000 ... right!
Right now I'm not aware of anyone being accused of voting more than twice > got any counter examples? The bigger abuses seem to come from "harvesting ballots" from the unaware ... "let me file your ballot for you". How do we catch those people? The perpetrator either discards the ballots or changes them then or does something else nefarious.
I have an idea. It seems a lot more certain that I can prevent people from voting more easily if I change voting places, reduce the number of polling places, or reduce hours, or require expensive documentation to qualify to vote ... and nobody has to go to jail ... not even the politicians!
7/2021 - Second (and probably the last) person was charged with voting twice in Presidential 2020 Election ... whopping numbers ... only need another 20,000 (all of which would have to be pro-Trump).

In a private meeting last month with big-money donors, the head of a top conservative group boasted that her outfit had crafted the new voter suppression law in Georgia and was doing the same with similar bills for Republican state legislators across the country. “In some cases, we actually draft them for them,” she said, “or we have a sentinel on our behalf give them the model legislation so it has that grassroots, from-the-bottom-up type of vibe."

WASHINGTON - At least four of Wisconsin’s five Republican U.S. House members say they’ll vote to oust Liz Cheney from her party leadership position in Congress after Cheney's ongoing rebukes of former President Donald Trump.
And that includes at least one lawmaker who publicly supported Cheney on a previous challenge to her leadership in February: Mike Gallagher.
The other three are Glenn Grothman, Bryan Steil and Scott Fitzgerald. (Another Wisconsin Republican, Tom Tiffany, had not responded as of Tuesday morning to a reporters' query).

This bill addresses voter access, election integrity, election security, political spending, and ethics for the three branches of government.
Specifically, the bill expands voter registration and voting access and limits removing voters from voter rolls.
The bill provides for states to establish independent, nonpartisan redistricting commissions.
The bill also sets forth provisions related to election security, including sharing intelligence information with state election officials, protecting the security of the voter rolls, supporting states in securing their election systems, developing a national strategy to protect the security and integrity of U.S. democratic institutions, establishing in the legislative branch the National Commission to Protect United States Democratic Institutions, and other provisions to improve the cybersecurity of election systems.
This bill addresses campaign spending, including by expanding the ban on foreign nationals contributing to or spending on elections; expanding disclosure rules pertaining to organizations spending money during elections, campaign advertisements, and online platforms; and revising disclaimer requirements for political advertising.
This bill establishes an alternative campaign funding system for certain federal offices. The system involves federal matching of small contributions for qualified candidates.
This bill sets forth provisions related to ethics in all three branches of government. Specifically, the bill requires a code of ethics for federal judges and justices, prohibits Members of the House from serving on the board of a for-profit entity, expands enforcement of regulations governing foreign agents, and establishes additional conflict-of-interest and ethics provisions for federal employees and the White House.
The bill also requires candidates for President and Vice President to submit 10 years of tax returns.
House Democrats passed sweeping voting and ethics legislation Wednesday over unanimous Republican opposition, advancing to the Senate what would be the largest overhaul of the U.S. election law in at least a generation.
House Resolution 1, which touches on virtually every aspect of the electoral process, was approved on a near party-line 220-210 vote. It would restrict partisan gerrymandering of congressional districts, strike down hurdles to voting and bring transparency to a murky campaign finance system that allows wealthy donors to anonymously bankroll political causes.
The bill is a powerful counterweight to voting rights restrictions advancing in Republican-controlled statehouses across the country in the wake of Donald Trump's repeated false claims of a stolen 2020 election. Yet it faces an uncertain fate in the Democratic-controlled Senate, where it has little chance of passing without changes to procedural rules that currently allow Republicans to block it. ...

As I grew up in Wisconsin I was a young child and didn't understand Joseph McCarthy. I remember in my neighborhood trucks going around broadcasting something about McCarthy or his opponent. But I don't remember what it was about. I asked my mother, she gave me some sort of explanation which I don't remember.
As I grew up I came to understand what McCarthy or McCarthyism was all about. I didn't know who the man Roy Cohn was. Overtime I began to understand the connection between Senator McCarthy and Roy Cohn. By 1986 when Roy Cohn died I had a much more complete picture of who the man was and what he stood for. I didn't know that Roy Cohn was connected to Donald Trump until Donald Trump ran for President.
As that awareness sank in I started to shake my head and wonder where this was going. That was 2015.
Now it's 2021. And in our Senate we have a tremendous number of Senator Joe McCarthy's manifestations.

The narrative I heard this morning about how Americans of moderately high income did not need rescue/relief. Perhaps so, but top down high income persons did not need Trump tax cuts and even worse they were not going to spend it. Nor was corporate welfare going to do the middle class much good.
The upper income limit of who to "save" was probably a political calculation to gain/maintain support for the broader proposal. Stop with the disingenuous narratives.
The rescue/relief money will be spent and multiplied several fold. So you get a good stimulus boost as another benefit to the rescue/relief.

The rumblings of pushing the above narrative continues. Rattner's data is so aggregated so as to question whether it should just be ignored. We need more light! If more details within the income groups complimented with data about age cohorts, and say the how debt pay downs are distributed we could be more comfortable in acting. Without details everyone should be forced to admit the conclusions they draw are guesses and subject to their own "confirmatory bias" or worse their own "moral conviction".

The "SeditionSenators" would be the perfect case study to include in Katherine M. Gehl's and Michael E. Porter's book "The Politics Industry - How Political Innovation Can Break Partisan Gridlock and Save Our Democracy".
Their book illustrates exactly why these Senators and a much longer list of Representatives are behaving this way - threatening democracy. Gehl and Porter blame the duopoly, the Republicans and the Democrats.
The authors go way beyond a descriptive case for what has gone wrong - they propose prescriptive changes that will return politicians to truly represent the "public interest", not just money and special interests.
The group is led by Senator Ted Cruz of Texas and also includes Senators Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, James Lankford of Oklahoma, Steve Daines of Montana, John Kennedy of Louisiana, Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee and Mike Braun of Indiana, and Senators-elect Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming, Roger Marshall of Kansas, Bill Hagerty of Tennessee and Tommy Tuberville of Alabama.
Together with Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri, who announced this week that he would object to Congress’s certification of the election results, they bring to nearly one quarter the proportion of Senate Republicans who have broken with their leaders to join the effort to invalidate Mr. Biden’s victory. In the House, more than half of Republicans joined a failed lawsuit seeking to overturn the will of the voters, and more are expected to support the effort to challenge the results in Congress next week.
Our political system in America is broken, right? Wrong. The truth is, the American political system is working exactly how it is designed to work, and it isn't designed or optimized today to work for us--for ordinary citizens. Most people believe that our political system is a public institution with high-minded principles and impartial rules derived from the Constitution. In reality, it has become a private industry dominated by a textbook duopoly--the Democrats and the Republicans--and plagued and perverted by unhealthy competition between the players. Tragically, it has therefore become incapable of delivering solutions to America's key economic and social challenges. In fact, there's virtually no connection between our political leaders solving problems and getting reelected. In "The Politics Industry," business leader and path-breaking political innovator Katherine Gehl and world-renowned business strategist Michael Porter take a radical new approach. They ingeniously apply the tools of business analysis--and Porter's distinctive Five Forces framework--to show how the political system functions just as every other competitive industry does, and how the duopoly has led to the devastating outcomes we see today. Using this competition lens, Gehl and Porter identify the most powerful lever for change--a strategy comprised of a clear set of choices in two key areas: how our elections work and how we make our laws. Their bracing assessment and practical recommendations cut through the endless debate about various proposed fixes, such as term limits and campaign finance reform. The result: true political innovation. "The Politics Industry" is an original and completely nonpartisan guide that will open your eyes to the true dynamics and profound challenges of the American political system and provide real solutions for reshaping the system for the benefit of all.
