GOP Waterboards the American Public; the 99%.

Weekend of July 24th, 2020

WASHINGTON (AP) — Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Saturday that Republicans were set to roll out the next COVID-19 aid package Monday and assured there was backing from the White House after he and President Donald Trump's top aide met to salvage the $1 trillion proposal that had floundered just days before.

This is all about running out the clock and then blaming the democrats.  It won't work even though the GOP will use the tactic "if we starve you" then you will agree to our terms.

Waterboarding is also known as "supply side economics" or "top-down economics" or the "Laffer curve".   Too bad it is not funny.  A previous trillion dollar tax cut for the wealthy will boost the stock market with stock buybacks but not develop the economy.

The wealthy just can't spend their surplus fast enough. A middle class family has to spend their money on real goods; a poor family even more so.

Steven Mnuchin is doing everything, a dull, inept wealthy person can to make sure Trump only gets a one term Presidency.  Watch the polls spread even wider.

Can Trump be impeached in December and the impeachment not sent to the Senate until after January 21, 2021?  Have the House recertify the impeachment in the new term and then send it to the new Democratic Senate.

We already know Trump will recertify himself for a second by declaring voting chaos.

COVID-19 - Duplicitous GOP Governor DeSantis - Jacksonville now wins Republican Convention

Miami Hetald -

Floridians flattened the COVID curve. Then, amid upbeat talk, the numbers began to rise

The Florida COVID-19 data said one thing while Gov. DeSantis sometimes said another

Reluctantly, under pressure, Florida disclosed COVID-19 data. What the numbers tell us

‘Leading indicators of a resurgence’: COVID-19 numbers trending up since reopening

... In mid-April, Gov. Ron DeSantis started talking about reopening Florida, saying the worst of the novel coronavirus pandemic was behind the state. Reported new COVID-19 cases had steadily declined that month.
“People were literally just frightened to the dickens,” DeSantis said on April 20, criticizing the news media and public health experts for in his view exaggerating the crisis.
At the time, the numbers had been trending downward. But by the time reopening began, the state no longer appeared to be meeting federal reopening guidelines for declines in new cases or positivity rates, although the numbers had not returned to peak level, a Miami Herald data analysis shows. (The Herald was able to perform an independent analysis of positivity because it exclusively obtained non-public state data. Read the methodology for our analysis.)
Alberto Moscoso, a spokesman for the Florida Department of Health, did not challenge the Herald’s finding but defended the governor’s approach without providing the state’s own analysis. “The Governor’s first priority in reopening Florida continues to be maintaining the health and safety of all residents,” he said.

ReadingList/PodCasts: The MisInformation Age - How False Beliefs Spread by O'Connor & Weatherall

THE MISINFORMATION AGE

I originally encountered Cailin O'Connor (UC-Irvine) in a interview on HiddenBrain -NPR. It was informative so I bought the book to find out more.

Facts Aren't Enough: The Psychology Of False Beliefs

On reflection, after reading the book, I would recommend starting with Chapter Four - The Social Network.  You will be motivated to read the whole book.  Each Chapter is well constructed and rationale and stands up to critical thinking/evaluation.

They also illustrate how we are easily duped and have trouble thinking longterm.

Chapter Four begins with a recounting of how an individual shot up a pizza parlor in Washington,  D. C.,  because they had come to believe it was "a staging ground for an international child prostitution ring ...  ."

TrumpGate - begin the argument - even the guilty need a trial.

Hubris is not a crime but usually serves to end your abuses of others.  I am not going to burden myself with an elaborate accounting of President Trump's abuses since many others have done this.  I am simply going to keep a list and pointers to the "chain" as they occur to me or I am reminded of them them.  I begin with just a few (watch this space).

A beginning -

Crimes:

  • Mueller report - substantial evidence of commissions of felonies.
  • Violation of Constitutions Emoluments  clause.
  • Violating budget amounts appropriated for Military Defense to building a wall Trump said Mexico would pay for?
  • Illegal arms sale to Saudi Arabia and subsequent firing of Defense Dept. IG 5/15/20.
Abuses:
  • Compiled lists of lies, misstatements, misrepresentations - > 18,000.
  • He was impeached by the House but not removed from office by the Senate.
  • Nepotism.
  • Pandemic - so many ways!
  • Separating families at the border and not know how to reconnect them; incompetence or intentional it remains inhuman?

Am I guilty of "Confirmatory Bias" the so called doubling down in the face of what many see as fact?

Remember the GOP Death Camp Idea - Vos and Fitzgerald (WI Legislature) Instrumental in RESURRECTION

Wikipedia -

Robin J. Vos (born July 5, 1968) is an American Republican politician and the 79th Speaker of the Wisconsin State Assembly. He has been a member of the Assembly since 2005, representing Racine County, and has been Speaker since 2013.

Scott L. Fitzgerald (born November 16, 1963) is an American politician and one-time newspaper publisher. He is a Republican member of the Wisconsin Senate, representing the 13th District since 1994.  In the wake of the 2018 elections when Democratic candidates were elected to the offices of governor, attorney general and secretary of state in Wisconsin, Fitzgerald pushed for legislation to remove powers from the incoming Democratic administration.

These two are the GOP leaders of the legislature in Wisconsin.  They appealed directly to the Wisconsin Supreme Court to overturn Governor Evers "Safer at Home" policy.

Washington Post - May 7th, 2020.  [.Chief Justice Patience Drake Roggensack ]

This is all supposedly going to lead to a policy better than "Safer At Home'.

I just find it so ironic, hypocritical and unethical on the part of the GOP who claimed ACA would result in "Death Camps" with bureaucrats deciding who would live or die.  Now at least we know in Wisconsin the decisions will be under the influence of a State Supreme Court Justice who favors "regular folk" over, who knows what kind of "other people."  That two politicians who represent their party, the GOP, but not much of Wisconsin, but hold their office elected by a tiny portion of the Wisconsin residents will have the ability to block reasonable policy formulated by "science" through a Governor elected by the majority of Wisconsin voters.

Former Impeached President Trump 's Epitath: 'It's not my job!' --- Pretender or Usurper

... and I couldn't do it anyhow!

Defense Production Act as from Wikipedia
The Act contains three major sections. The first authorizes the president to require businesses to accept and prioritize contracts for materials deemed necessary for national defense, regardless of a loss incurred on business (it is unclear what would occur if business refuses or is unable to complete request on time). It also allows the president to designate materials to be prohibited from hoarding or price gouging.[2] The second section authorizes the president to establish mechanisms (such as regulations, orders or agencies) to allocate materials, services and facilities to promote national defense. The third section authorizes the president to control the civilian economy so that scarce and critical materials necessary to the national defense effort are available for defense needs.[3][4][5]
The Act also authorizes the president to requisition property, force industry to expand production and the supply of basic resources, impose wage and price controls, settle labor disputes, control consumer and real estate credit, establish contractual priorities, and allocate raw materials towards national defense.[3]

New York Times 4/14/2020
