Can A Bird Fly With Only A Right Wing?!

Motivated by the current (2011) political climate in Wisconsin it seems reasonable to devote some time and effort to comment on issues and some of the hyperbole. So we in the public should do what we can to help focus "journalists" on delineating real facts versus spin. If you accept the spin you do not understand the policy implications.

The 'Intrinsic' President Trump Mocks Physically Challenged Journalist... and later My Administration (I) Will Cancel/Defund "Special Olympics" and then change my mind?

2015: Trump mocks reporter with disability 7,205,491 views - CNN YouTube

The Journalist responds

... from Wikipedia at the above link ...

Comments by Donald Trump[edit]

In a speech at a November 24, 2015, rally in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, presidential candidate Donald Trump claimed that "thousands and thousands of people were cheering" in Jersey City, New Jersey, as the World Trade Center collapsed.[10]
After this claim was questioned,[11] the Trump campaign pointed to a September 18, 2001, Washington Post article that Kovaleski had co-authored with Fredrick Kunkle, as substantiation of the claim. According to the article, "law enforcement authorities detained and questioned a number of people who were allegedly seen celebrating the attacks and holding tailgate-style parties on rooftops while they watched the devastation."[12]
Kovaleski issued the following written statement in response to the Trump campaign's adoption of his report as an independent verification of New Jersey-based celebrations following the destruction of the World Trade Center:[10]
I certainly do not remember anyone saying that thousands or even hundreds of people were celebrating. That was not the case, as best as I can remember.[13]
In apparent response to this written statement, Trump said in a November 25, 2015, speech in South Carolina: "You've got to see this guy: 'Uhh, I don't know what I said. Uhh, I don't remember,' he's going like 'I don't remember. Maybe that's what I said.'"[14] Trump bent his wrist severely and flailed his arms repeatedly as he spoke.
Trump was sharply criticized worldwide as a result of him mocking Kovaleski due to the fact that it was widely believed he mocked Kovaleski's disability. Kovaleski has arthrogryposis, a condition causing joint contracture in his right arm and hand.[15]
[Emphasis added]  Following worldwide criticism, Trump said that he was not mocking Kovaleski's disability because he did not know what Kovaleski looked like.[16] Kovaleski has said that while reporting on Trump for the New York Daily News, the two had been on a first-name basis and had met face-to-face on a dozen occasions, including interviews and press conferences in the late 1980s.[16] That the two knew each other was corroborated by multiple other witnesses.[17][18]
In a tweet sent on November 26, 2016, Trump further characterized Kovaleski's written statement (see above) as a form of "groveling" and stated that Kovaleski had "pulled back from his [original] statement."[19]

Whether this offers perspective on President Trump's propensity to lie, or strong evidence of his values ... it is really, really sad.

#GOP Voter #Fraud ... #NYMAG ... #Intelligencer - Ed Kilgore

So now, from North Carolina, there’s finally a clearly documented case

of election fraud that actually appears to have changed an election result. The cruel irony for Republicans is that operatives from their own party — particularly “consultant” Leslie McCrae Dowless — allegedly did the deed.

As Philip Bump notes, this is very much a blue-moon development:

The last time there was a federal election that needed to be rerun was more than 40 years ago, when a close race combined with a faulty voting machine in Louisiana to prompt the calling of a new election. Politico’s Steven Shepard has a good history of past do-overs, including that Louisiana race, a history that makes clear that this is probably the first federal election in which the results were tainted by fraudulent activity.

To be clear, the illegal activity in North Carolina’s Ninth District didn’t resemble the “voter fraud” scenarios Republicans have insisted on imagining in recent years:

[This] wasn’t an election tainted by people showing up to cast illegal ballots, the fraud allegation that has been leveled scores of times by President Trump alone. Instead, it focused on allegedly corrupt actions by a man working for a consulting firm hired by one of the candidates.

So tighter voter-ID laws or voter-roll purges or more closely scrutinized voter-registration drives, the most frequent GOP prescriptions for “election security,” wouldn’t have mattered at all. You could make an attenuated case that opportunities for early voting or voting-by-mail — in this case voting by absentee ballot — that Democrats have recent championed are the problem. But what happened in North Carolina is the functional equivalent of old-fashioned, 19th-century ballot-box stuffing. Unused absentee ballots were fraudulently filled out with signatures forged, and actually filled-out absentee ballots cast for the “wrong” candidate were discarded. As the Brennan Center wryly observes, this activity was much closer to voter suppression than to the voter fraud alleged to justify voter suppression.

Scott Walker to raise money for Republican redistricting group

MADISON - Former Gov. Scott Walker will lead fundraising for a Republican group focused on drawing maps for Congress and state legislatures.
As fundraising chairman for the National Republican Redistricting Trust, Walker will serve in some ways as a counterpoint to Eric Holder, the former attorney general under President Barack Obama who has been active in Wisconsin politics since last year. Holder oversees the National Democratic Redistricting Committee.

Warren about Sessions & Bennet about Cruz - Who was prevented from speaking?

I liked what Senator Elizabeth Warren had to say!  I liked what Senator Michael Bennet had to say.

I question why an obscure rule was applied to Senator Warren but not Senator Bennet.

Warren Silenced for Reading Coretta Scott King Letter at Sessions Debate

Senate Republicans voted to rebuke Warren after she read from a letter that Coretta Scott King wrote criticizing Sessions, a Republican senator from Alabama, who was confirmed Wednesday night as attorney general. The 1986 letter, written when Sessions — then the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Alabama — was being considered for a federal judgeship.

Dem Sen. Bennet Rips Cruz On Senate Floor: Your "Crocodile Tears" Are "Too Hard For Me To Take" Posted By Ian Schwartz On Date January 24, 2019

Sen. Michael Bennet (D-CO) took to the Senate floor to bash his colleague Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) for waxing "crocodile tears" over the shutdown.

"These crocodile tears that the senator from Texas is crying for first responders are too hard for me to take," Bennet said Thursday. "They’re too hard for me to take, because when the senator from Texas shut this government down in 2013, my state was flooded. It was underwater."

Jounalism 's Role - Don't do ... 'Both-sides-ism is suicide for democracy'

"... There are plenty of ways today to pay little—or nothing—to read the news. There are free blogs. There's Facebook and Twitter. Who needs a subscription to a local newspaper?

Millions of Americans have decided they don't. But new research suggests this strategy may have costs in the long run. That's because newspapers are not like most things we buy. If you decide not to buy a watch or a cappuccino, you save money. But if you decide not to pay for a police department, you might save money in the short run, but end up paying more in the long run.
Whereas most of us treat newspapers like consumer products, new research from Paul Gao, Chang Lee, and Dermot Murphy suggests that they might be more like police departments. Gao, Lee, and Murphy looked at how newspaper closures might affect the cost of borrowing in local governments. What they found is a price tag that may give many taxpayers sticker shock.
... Hidden Brain, we look at an unusual case of a free-rider problem. And we ask, who bears the cost when nobody wants to pay?"

So you wanna be a #Journalist! #Wisconsin to #Miami ! Support your local newspaper! (2022-2023)
Asking for #corruption and loving the #swamp.  What happens when #newspaper #reporters and/or #journalists disappear.  Where did the #fourthEstate go?  So #Trump #GOP spouts #FakeNews
