Assembly Minority Leader Peter Barca is calling on his fellow lawmakers to refuse to expand the number of political appointments given Gov. Scott Walker.
Barca (D-Kenosha) said he was making the announcement after the Journal Sentinel reported that the Walker administration gave a high-paying state job to Brian Deschane, son of Jerry Deschane of the Wisconsin Builders Association. Earlier, Walker officials hired Valerie Cass, the woman identified as the girlfriend of state Sen. Randy Hopper (R-Fond du Lac).
In addition, the governor's recent budget-repair measure converted 37 state jobs from civil-service posts to appointed positions.
