So Walker is on solid ground singling out what happened in Dane County in this election. But he is on more dubious ground suggesting the state can somehow be divided politically into Dane County and “everybody else.” It would be akin to a Democrat saying the state can be divided into the GOP’s base in the Milwaukee suburbs (hugely Republican Waukesha, Ozaukee and Washington counties) and “everybody else.” Those three counties are as unrepresentative of Wisconsin as a whole as Dane County is in the other direction. And they perform the same electoral role. Each party has its geographic base and both figure mightily in state elections, which to some degree have turned into partisan turnout wars.
