Upd#4 6/11 - Citizen Management - Capitol Police Style - Monday evening WORT interview

... and more ...

A further update from the reporter -

One should try to have all the facts before drawing conclusions but someone once said something like ... "what am I going to believe my lying eyes".  The words exchanged or the sequence of events leading up to this "video" may not be totally clear but it does speak for itself.  I understand that one of the individuals detained(?) was interviewed Monday evening (last night) on WORT.  In the interest of full disclosure I have briefly met that person.  I am going to find that WORT interview ... hope the rest of the "press establishment" will try to shine some bright light on these seemingly new Capitol police tactics.

A link and a quote from Emily Mills (Isthmus) has been added below and the WORT interview moved as well!

Emily's Post: An open letter to the #wiunion movement (Isthmus) on Tuesday 06/07/2011

From that source -
So when several dozen protesters made it into the building Monday via a door that has otherwise been locked, it was hard to fault them for it. The police response to the breech, however, was wildly inappropriate. Jesse Russell and others took video of what happened, and Nick Nice wrote about it:
I walked in the King St. doors and just as I entered I saw a wall of about 10 or so officers running towards the entrance. They were all primarily State troopers & Capitol police, I recognized a few of them as people who had been working security the past few times I'd visited the Capitol. I sort of scooted over to the right-hand side and stopped to watch what they were going to do. As I was watching, I saw them grab a girl and violently throw her against the marble wall and arrest her... They were being so rough with her that myself and others started yelling at the cops to leave her alone. While I was trying to get some shots I asked an officer what she was being arrested for and she told me that 'she was trying to run away from them.' I couldn't believe what I was seeing just a few feet away from me. The whole scene was quite chaotic but there weren't that many people observing it. I'd say maybe a dozen to 20 people at most. One guy was so upset by it that he went right up by the officers arresting her demanding to know what was up. At this moment a female officer came up to me and told me that I had to leave the building. I told her that I had a right to be there and she had no right to remove me. She left me alone as a few seconds later a burly bald-headed cop violently grabbed the man by the neck. The officer who was talking to me joined her other officers in violently assaulting this man for no reason whatsoever. They slammed this guy so hard into the hard marble walls that I thought they were going to kill him.

2/15/2011 : Budget Repair Bill Protest! Madison WI 2 15 2011 Students Arrive

I saw this happen live ... did not find the video until now ... more firsts / history for students! 2/15/2011.  This is just about as early in the process as it could begin ... 2/11 is when the news hit the papers (esp. WSJ).

The Title will take you to the video on YouTube - today 3/31 (23,000+) views.

3/31: WSJ 11:15am - Walker administration will comply with judge's order halting collective bargaining law

At least they will comply for the next few hours ... will the Republicans call a vote again ... popular theory is they do not have the votes ... watch for a Republican Caucus meeting ... what surprises can the DOJ spring ... Sumi could still rule tomorrow or a little later to remove the TRO and have La Follette set a date for publication!  Click the Title to see WSJ article.

If we get Open Meetings upheld will we get Open Capitol upheld?

One young persons reaction to
Open Meetings meaning and an Open Capitol - MAYBE!

I would love to go the Capitol and see my legislators but I think it will be on lock down until Walker gets recalled ... it is truly a large inconvenience to the public to have to be wanded, go through metal detectors, empty your pockets, etc. - and they keep switching which doors you can use to enter!  What's that all about?

3/31 : Outside signs - Inside - JFC Day 3 - Tony Evers - Dept Public Instruction Testimony

The JFC is now into its Third Day.  UW-Madison and UW-System concluded ... listened for couple of hours -- back and forth on the "split" and flexibility!

2pm - It's a nice day in Madison ... there are a block and one-half on Ian's Pizza box lids protest signs and a good deal more people along the sidewalk ... but not large.

Earlier - News is that DOA will stop implementation of AB 10 (budget repair) - per Judge Sumi's order. Vos and Darling left the JFC about 1pm to go to Governor's Office - something just came up  ... Darlings words ... bet when I get back to Twitter there will have been a "Press Conference"!

JFC now ondeck: Superintendent Evers (elected) among many things has just pointed out that the Governor's budget singled out to cut one "environmental instructional" position in DPI -- curious?  Finished - questions now - Vos first.  Will be listening but not commenting!

Upd:   Seems a little contentious with Republican Legislators ... the Democrats (esp. Milwaukee) are interested about impacts on their areas.  Darling (R) encourages Evers to work with the Governor.  Earlier Evers explained why the "out-of-state" study done of schools is probably flawed.

I - Before 2/25 Ian's pizza lid protest - Inside WI Capitol 2/25/2011 or before

These pictures were taken on 2/25 in the evening at a time when you could get in and out of the Capitol with relative ease.  The signs probably existed from before that time ... box lids had been being used even before this but in a one-off fashion.  Pizzas would arrive, be consumed and a few boxes would be grabbed and used to make spontaneous signs.  They are not arranged in any particular order

#TeaParty Members have to be paid to rally??? (3/17/11)

Click on the Title or
FreedomWorks to target unions in Wisconsin
- quote from the above ... hence my rich uncle analogy (see at end  - if you were wondering)
The Tea Party-linked group announced the $5.6 million first phase of the campaign today, which is set to include TV and online ads in addition to organized protests to counter labor rallies. The campaign will begin in Ohio, while Wisconsin and Tennessee are mentioned as part of the next wave of states.

If you are from Wisconsin and you go to a rally, you double up with neighbors in a car or take a  bus, pay your own parking, buy your own lunch or pack it yourself and if you are lucky your parents did not come along with you so they can babysit, otherwise the kids come along too and you just might want the kids to come along!

That's the way it has been for a large majority of people at pro-Wisconsin anti- FitzWalkerStan protests in Madison, Wisconsin for the last month.

According to the Wispolitics.com budget blog the Tea Party members evidently sit back and watch TV ... my interpretation while their rich uncle orders the prime rib.   In other words you may have to pay them to get off the couch ... but they will probably get the PR message!
